Ugly Bug Ball

So I thought the couple of people (there are a couple of you out there, right?) who read this blog might be wondering why it's called the Ugly Bug Ball.
Well, I got the name off a song of the same name by Burl Ives. He sung it for Walt Disney's Summer Magic way back in 1963. I got four CDs of Disney's greatest hits from a friend and I heard the song and it was just too endearing! I loved the naivety!

So now you know. I bet you see me in a different light all of a sudden. Hehe.

Here's a clip of the original for your amusement:

Our psychological state allows us to see the words we need to see or the words we feel. What words do you see?

Hate, malice, lust, secret and passion are the first words I saw. Hmmm...

Happy national day Qatar!!

Here's a picture I took:

If you look closer you'd see Qatar's flag in the background. I just think it's not bad so I thought I'd post it here.
That's all..

Three Places I'd Like to Visit

Antarctica:

It seems so peaceful and quiet. I'd love to float on an iceberg and watch the penguins play and photograph seals being eaten by killer whales.

Kenya:

I love animals and I love nature. Kenya is flooded with those two things. It's such a beautiful place that promises to teach a person so much.

India:

When I think of India the first word that pops into my mind is culture. India is so diverse and has such a beautiful, rich history of culture. It is also geographically diverse, Kerala (pictured) is different from Kashmir which is different from Mumbai or New Delhi. I'd probably gain 10 kilos from the food though! Mmmm.

My Four Favorite Fictional Characters (Books)

In no particular order!

The BFG

The BFG is just about the nicest giant you'll ever meet. I think I've met him once, I'm not entirely sure. It might have been another wrinkly faced giant with large ears, short pants and a vuvuzela-like dream blower.

Albus Dumbledore

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. When I think of him it is like thinking of an old friend or mentor. He is the epitome of goodness.

Gollum/Smeagol

He personifies everyone's struggle between good and evil, between wanting to do the right thing but submitting to our own selfishness and pride. His debate with himself about Frodo's sincerity was one of the high points of the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy. He was the character with the most, well, character.

Harry, Ron and Hermione

I had to put these three together! You couldn't have expected me to split them up! I read the Harry Potter books growing up and these three were like my best friends when I escaped into that world. We have a connection which I know a lot of other kids who read the books can relate to.

Qatar

Here's a brilliant post written by my best friend Eman:

Qatar

She did an amazing job in clearing some things up to some losers, mostly from the US. Read it, it's really awesome.

Also, take a look at her blog. She's a brilliant writer.

WikiLeaks

WikiLeaks reports another electronic disruption

I think that the documents revealed by WikiLeaks are not as scandalous as the media makes them out to be. Diplomatic relations are hardly ever about personal liking, it is about mutual political and often economic benefits. I think that most diplomats are aware that other diplomats do not care for them, and it probably did not come as a shock to most of the diplomats in question. For example, "some U.S. diplomats raised questions about Turkey's reliability as a global partner, given the rise of pro-Islamist and anti-Israel sentiments within its government". If these criticisms had been made in public, it would have been a direct affront to the diplomatic relations between the U.S. and other countries. However, the fact that they were confidential and uncovered by a third party makes it more acceptable as the U.S. evidently never intended for them to be made public. Most of the leaked cables hardly reveal any outrageous information and seem to have served only the goal of shaking  the United States' foreign relations.
If the documents revealed any sensitive information, especially regarding current U.S. operations, it would have been an internecine attack that could endanger the current world political system, especially in the context of the rising tensions between dangerous nuclear states like North Korea and Iran and the unipolar superpower that is the United States. Add to that the rising influence and economic strength of China versus the economic weakness of the U.S. as well as the imperial perspective of Russia, and you get a recipe that could endanger the United States' position. That is not the case in the leaked documents, and unless WikiLeaks has its hands on another Watergate or Iran-Contra affair, I don't think it poses a threat to U.S. relations.
